About this event
To honor our Veterans, Mike Schneier will be sharing his recent experience traveling to Washington DC with his son as part of the "Honor Flight" program. Mike is also bringing a representative from Honor Flight to explain the "Honor Flight" program.
Gregg Miller will be talking about building a military shadowbox for his father’s WW-II medals, awards, and other memorabilia. This will not only be a discussion on building the box but a portion of Gregg's talk will introduce you to aspects of his father’s life leading up to his military service, with additional focus on the historical inspiration and research challenges of obtaining his father's military service information.
Another topic for the night will be "Identifying different species of Wood". We invite everyone attending to bring in a small sample (or more) of a wood that might be a bit unusual that we can pass around to determine the species. We will discuss tools and methods to help identify wood types. Maybe we can take some of the mystery out of identifying wood types!
Alan VanDeMoere will be bringing an assortment of different woods that are commonly used. These samples are numbered and everyone will get a worksheet to try and match the numbered samples with the name of the wood.
We would also like to hear stories of how members have gotten "deals" or "free" wood and the possible pitfalls of obtaining this wood!
Hope to see you there! Jim and Mark
